Young people to make their own summer blockbuster

23 June 2010

A summer film-making project is planned by a Ludlow young people's group which is supported by South Shropshire Housing Association.

Residents of Ludlow Foyer will be provided with full movie-making equipment, courtesy of national parent organisation the Foyer Federation, to make a film about starting out in the world of work.

They have been given access to professional video cameras, Apple Mac computers and editing software to allow them to put the spotlight on the skills needed to get and keep a job.

Throughout the summer they plan to visit a range of employers in the area to carry out and record interviews which will provide invaluable life experience to young people for when they are applying for jobs and starting out in employment.

Topics the young film makers plan to cover include time keeping, what to wear, how wages are paid and what the expectations are of the people they will meet in the workplace.

The group will be looking for employers who are willing to spare a small amount of time to be interviewed for the films.

Ludlow Foyer manager, Kim Skinner, said: “This is a very exciting project for our residents. They will have the chance to master a fascinating new skill while learning for themselves about the world of work. When the project is complete there will be a fantastic resource to share with other young people who may be entering the workplace for the first time and it will help them to prepare and equip themselves with worth while skills needed for employment.

“We're very much looking forward to working with South Shropshire employers who can give a small amount of time to this great project and would urge them to contact us if they are interested in helping.”

Ludlow Foyer, in Portcullis Lane, is a 15-bed residential centre that provides a supportive environment to support and assist young people in moving towards independent living. It is part of a network of 130 such centres accredited by the Foyer Federation across the UK and is supported by South Shropshire Housing Association. Kim Skinner can be contacted on 01584 877111.
