Tenants Improvement Charter

30 July 2008

More than £7,000 has been paid to tenants by South Shropshire Housing Association, in conjunction with their tenant group Tass, since the first improvement plans were approved under the Charter in January.

South Shropshire Housing Association Managing Director, Paul Sutton, explained: “We recognize that people are proud of their homes and as such want to make improvements and alterations which are not planned as part of our normal plan of investment. This scheme makes a real difference to the traditional landlord tenant relationship.

“We have agreed to share fifty percent of the costs of improvements provided they are approved under the Charter agreement before work commences. So far these have included a conservatory, patio, level access shower, paving and the resurfacing of a drive. Many more projects are in the pipeline. “

Mrs Margaret Davies of Whitbread Road, Ludlow, was one of the first to benefit. She resurfaced her drive under the Charter scheme, and said: “The scheme was easy to access and the whole process very quick. We’re really pleased with the result as it’s made a big difference.”

She had applied in October 2007 to carry out the works and her application was reviewed and approved by the tenant improvement charter panel in January.
