South Shropshire Housing Association was formed in the early 1990’s and pioneered the Trickle Transfer of homes from South Shropshire District Council (SSDC), alongside the development of new homes through special ‘exceptions planning’ arrangements. The transfer of all SSDC’s homes to SSHA was completed in 1994.
SSHA is now the largest social housing provider in the area, a major employer and a key player in local partnerships and rural regeneration.
SSHA currently owns and manages approximately 2000 properties in and around the South Shropshire area and builds about 50 new homes a year. It has developed services and expertise in a whole range of housing and related services.
In addition to improving, managing and maintaining our general needs homes, SSHA runs a foyer for young people, a refuge for women fleeing domestic violence, sheltered schemes for older people and mobile support services for vulnerable adults.
There are three distinct teams within SSHA:
- Development and Regeneration;
- Housing and Care;
- Property and Maintenance.
The Board comprises 10 members – seven Independent Members, two Tenant Members and one District Council Nominee.
