We have a team of nine support staff who offer help to people in their own homes, SSHA properties or temporary accommodation.
SPAM meets on a monthly basis and covers topics such as healthy eating, safety and security around the home, money management, benefits advice, cooking, health and fitness, computers for beginners and many more subjects chosen by the group at the beginning of the year.
At the end of each year SPAM round off with a Christmas Extravaganza and past events have included The Generation Game, I’m A SPAM Member Get Me Out Of Here and SPAM Factor.
SPAM works in partnership with the Shropshire Supporting People forum and some SPAM members attend both groups. SPAM has previously worked with outside agencies and hopes to raise the profile of the group even further by obtaining funding and grants appropriate to the SPAM programme.
Recent SPAM activities were supported by grants from South Shropshire District Council through the Arts Advisory Service and the Community Chest Scheme; Shropshire County Council through the ‘Celebrating Shropshire’s Festivals and Events’; Shropshire Partnership and Marches Housing and Charitable Trust. We look forward to their continuing support. Courses have also been held in conjunction with Shropshire Adult and Community Learning on a range of subjects including computer skills and arts and crafts.
